Dodge Coronet

The Coronet appeared first in the 1950's as a full-size car from Dodge. Its history can be divided into two parts because it all started in the 50's, it disappeared for a while and then reappeared in the mid 60's.

The first Dodge Coronet generation was a car which can be easily called by any person 'an out of use' car. Its production lasted 5 years: from 1949 to 1955. There were three body styles: 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and 4-door limousine (8 passengers). The stock Coronet was a smooth running car and it had a six-cylinder engine which enabled it to 90+ miles per hour. The first generation was a three-speed, fluid-driven transmission that was operated by a foot pedal; it required no shifter.

There were six Coronet generations: the second one was produced between 1955 and 1959 and had only two body styles: 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. The third generation-from 1965 to 1967 had the same body styles and had different and stronger engines. In 1969 appeared a special Coronet model, called the Dodge Coronet Super Bee. It lasted only until 1971, when it was sold as the Charger Super Bee. In 1971 appeared the fifth Dodge generation, which lasted two years. It had only one body style- the 4-door sedan. In 1973, Dodge introduced the "TorsionQuiet" system which was equipped with rubber vibration insulators and silencers, which assured a more quiet and pleasant ride. Finally, the sixth generation, from 1974 to 1976 received a final refreshment. The body appeared squarer and the front fascia was redesigned with round highlights. In 1977, the Coronet received another name: Monaco. It was a larger Coronet, with big square highlights and other minor changes that led immediately to a sales boost. Another name that the Coronet received was 'the Dodge Diplomat'.

The Dodge Coronet is a car that has a dynamic history. Its improvements along the way, its incredible evolution and its many models give the impression of a 'hard to settle down' car.
