Mazda 323
The Mazda 323 first came out onto the market in 1986 and was manufactured up until 1989. It was categorized into the subcompact class of cars. There were many variations and body styles available of this car, some of which even were even differentiated by being renamed. It was sold around the world, but was discontinued and replaced by the seventh generation of this series. The Mazda 323 was built solely in Japan in either the Hiroshima or Hofu plant.
There were a number of body styles built under the Mazda 323 model. There was a 2 door convertible, 3 and 5 door hatchback, 4 door sedan and a 5 door station wagon. In South Africa there was even a pickup version sold. There were two engines, the one being a 1.6 L and the other a 1.6 L turbo. There was a 4 speed automatic transmission available, but the 4 and 5 speed manual transmissions were more common.
